Reliable Day In and Day Out: The IBM IntelliStation A Pro with AMD Opteron Processors
“The IBM IntelliStation A Pro based on the AMD Opteron processor blows away everything in the IntelliStation line up that came before it. This is a monster fast machine with the fastest processor on the planet.”

In her recent review of the IBM IntelliStation A Pro, Akiko Ashley, Senior Associate Editor for Architosh unveils some of the features and performance benefits of the IntelliStation A Pro based on AMD Opteron processors.

“The IntelliStation A Pro from IBM, equipped with dual
AMD Opteron processors Model 248, 2GHz of RAM and a smoking NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 graphics card is super fast. The 64-bit AMD Opteron processor runs both 32- and 64-bit apps giving you the ability to migrate to 64-bit without losing support for your applications. One of the technologies that make the The IBM IntelliStation A Pro 6224 workstation is optimized for compute-intensive and highly visual applications like financial modeling, digital-content creation, and computer-aided engineering and design.
AMD Opteron processor so fast is HyperTransport™ technology. HyperTransport technology is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase the communication speed between integrated circuits in computers, servers and workstations. This architectural feature links the processors and chipsets on the motherboard and provides speeds of up to 19.2GB’s of bandwidth per processor. In addition to HyperTransport technology, the
AMD Opteron processor has larger onboard cache then other models, which makes rendering on a system based on the processor so much faster.”
