Next-Generation AMD Opteron™ Processor Solutions Are Here

We continue our dedication to meet the technology needs of our customers with the Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor. Platforms based on these next-generation processors will offer seamless migration path to Quad-Core computing in 2007, in addition to offering increased capabilities for x86 virtualization and overall reduced TCO (total cost of ownership) compared to previous
AMD Opteron processors. Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors for servers and workstations are immediately available for 1-way to 8-way processing solutions and are being offered from our technology partners worldwide.

Get ready for seamless migration to Quad-Core computing: Since the beginning, AMD Opteron processors have set out to provide the greatest possible computing benefit with the least impact on your datacenter infrastructures. This philosophy was evident in 2005 as AMD delivered a seamless upgrade path from single-core to Dual-Core
AMD Opteron processors and it will continue with our Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors, as we plan to enable a seamless upgrade from Dual-Core to Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor solutions in 2007. With Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, you can drastically increase the performance and performance-per-watt capabilities of your Next-Generation AMD Opteron processor-based solutions while requiring no changes to your power and cooling infrastructures.

Advanced x86 virtualization capabilities: The AMD Opteron processor with Direct Connect Architecture has quickly become the leading platform choice for customers implementing software-based x86 virtualization environments. Now, with Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors, we are introducing AMD Virtualization™ (AMD-V™) hardware-accelerated benefits. AMD Virtualization is designed to grow the ecosystem of x86 virtualization solutions, providing you with more choices, easier implementation, and improved performance compared to currently available solutions.

Reduced Total Cost of Ownership: To further our goal of offering outstanding computing capabilities to customers without impacting their business, AMD Opteron processors continue to offer a common core architecture across all products, representing 1P to 8P systems. This common core architecture, combined with shared used of HyperTransport™ technology-based chipsets, can help reduce your organization’s support costs. The use of low-power DDR2 memory with Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors can help reduce operational costs, as can AMD PowerNow!™ technology and the availability of low-power processors. New memory RAS features help reduce system downtime for further improvements in TCO.

Widespread Support from Hardware partners:
HP will add Next-Generation AMD Opteron processors to the HP ProLiant DL385 and DL585 rack-optimized servers and the HP ProLiant BL25p, BL45p, BL465c and BL685c server blades and future workstations.

“Our strong, global relationship with AMD is built upon a commitment to deliver advanced technologies and high-performing platforms that meet the ever-changing demands of enterprise customers,” said Paul Miller, vice president, marketing, Industry Standard Servers and BladeSystem Division, HP. “Given HP’s success of delivering superior system performance and best-run server infrastructures through a broad array of power efficient enterprise-class platforms with
AMD Opteron processors, we plan to support Next-Generation
AMD Opteron processors in our server and workstation product lines.”
