Join The Green Grid and Take Control of Your Datacenter Power Consumption

Last week, founding sponsors AMD, HP, IBM, Rackable Systems and Sun joined with the United States Environmental Protection Agency/Energy Star and the Alliance to Save Energy to announce The Green Grid initiative.
The Green Grid provides a forum for information technology professionals interested in reducing power consumption in datacenters around the globe. As an open-to-all initiative, The Green Grid will announce other sponsors in the near-future.
In short, The Green Grid represents an effort to drive greater energy efficiency by focusing on power and cooling issues in datacenters. Thanks to the sharing of best practices, online discussion forums as well as business and professional relationships, it will help IT professionals pro-actively address one of the world ’s major concerns: energy usage.
Although the sponsors are working together to develop milestones and a long-term action plan, The Green Grid will be managed by its members and not its founders. Its goal is to ensure independent thought, idea-generation and action around the mission of the organization.
The Green Grid’s sponsors have offered founding memberships to several of the world’s largest datacenters, and are encouraging IT organizations across the U.S. to become more involved in managing power consumption in their datacenters through the sharing of best practices and participating in membership meetings and an annual summit
Visit www.TheGreenGrid.org today to find out more about its mission and how you can join The Green Grid and help take control of this global issue>>>

Celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of the
AMD Opteron™ Processor with Growing Market Share and New Validated Servers

Thanks to customers like you, we are proud to report that on this third anniversary of the launch of the AMD Opteron™ processor and AMD64 technology, AMD has seen an increase in its overall x86 server processor market share. According to Mercury Research, the AMD Opteron processor accounted for 22.1 percent of the worldwide x86 server processors shipped in the first quarter of this year, up from 16.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005.
To mark the growing demand for AMD Opteron processor-based systems, we are also expanding our AMD Validated Server program with 12 new platforms offered by Newisys, Supermicro Computer, Inc., Tyan Computer Corporation and Uniwide Technologies, Inc. AMD Validated Server platforms are thoroughly tested for quality, compatibility, longevity and stability and are backed by global manufacturers who have met rigorous standards of performance and service in order to participate. The new platforms are available in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
“As the number of available AMD Opteron processor-based servers from our OEM and system builder community continues to rise, so does our share of the x86 server from both a market and revenue perspective,” said Henri Richard, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, AMD. “AMD remains committed to working collaboratively with leading manufacturers to develop qualified, reliable and well-supported server solutions with industry-leading x86 performance-per-watt-per-dollar for the channel."
